Milmore Downs welcomes energetic and motivated people interested in learning and becoming involved in all aspects of the farm.

Many agriculture students from all over the world have been here and normally spend 2-4 months completing a practical period that is part of their studies. Students are involved in all activities on the farm, house/kitchen and gardens depending on what work the season requires. Students should be interested in learning about organic or biodynamic farming. The most labour intensive times are from early November until April, and from July to September. We can take maximum 2 students at the same time. Students receive food and board, they live in a basic self-contained “sleep-out” where they cook and can spend free time. It is not insulated for winter living, but due also to the distribution of work through the year, we accept students only between July and April/May.

Please send your application to our email address info@milmore.downs.co.nz and tell us who you are, how old you are, where you are from, what your studies are, what your special interests are. We would also like to hear about what has motivated you to come to a Biodynamic farm in New Zealand, and if you have already had experience on conventional or organic farms.

Please note: It would be good for you to include the following in your luggage: Good gum boots (essential!), and maybe some light work boots. Work trousers – they can be old – two pairs and some shorts Work Tee-shirts and sweatshirts (maybe they get worn out during the stay!) Of course an old raincoat, a pocket knife, torch, sewing stuff to stich up you trousers again. Notice, New Zealand can have three seasons in one day and you will need really warm clothes even if you are here for summer months. Bring everthing you would take if you go on a long adventures journey.

For the farm stay it would be good, if you had some experience in cooking and taking care of yourself, it can get pretty lonely out here. It is an awesome place!
