Mid of January 2012

Unfortunately the Dinkel (spelt) reserves from the 2011 harvest will not reach through to the 2012 harvest. With the continuing damp weather this should take place in February somewhat later than usual and that is causing the shortfall.

So for now, from 15 January 2012 we are unable to supply any Dinkel products. Fingers crossed that weather improves and harvest comes in. In any case we expect reduced yields due to the very difficult season; watch this space for an update.

January 2012

Lots of rain prevents to start the harvest. It's going to get a very difficult season. Cross fingers for longer periods of sunshine.

19th September 2011
Sorry - Naked Barley is sold out for this season.

17th August 2011
We had quite a bit of snow in July, which wasn't a danger for the stock. Now in August it's snowing again with freezing cold wind, fields are under a 30 cm blanket of white, difficult for sheep and their lambs, unfortunately we will certainly loose some of the new born. Looking forward the best development we could hope for is a rapid thaw to make grass available and sunshine for the new lambs.

20th February 2011
The "Biocapacity" workshop with Helle Janssen took place on the farm. He gave a lot of information on how landscapes work on our planet and the contribution of trees to it. It was very interesting to hear about the differing effects on the climate and the soil from planting just pine trees compared to deciduous trees or native trees. He explained the steps necessary for planting to ensure resilient long term positive effects for communities. This includes environmental but also social and economic ones. Contact for more details www.LifeCapacity.org. Are there any questions about it contact us.

Horn Manure Making, Milmore Downs
in April
The day starts at 12 o'clock with a shared lunch and ends late afternoon with a cup of tea.

Every year in April and October
Milmore Downs invites the Biodynamic Canterbury branch to hold a branch field day for making horn manure and horn silica (and often the compost preparations as well). This is a good way to learn more about Biodynamics, see prep making in practise and ensure your own personal supply. For more information contact us or the group coordinator Marinus La Rooij, 03 3317677 or marinus2@clear.net.nz
